Lars Engebretsen - How IOCs efforts support the health of the athlete locally
Lars Engebretsen MD PhD is a professor and director of research at the Orthopaedic Center, Ulleval University Hospital and University of Oslo Medical School and Professor and co-chair of the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center. He is also Chief Doctor for the Norwegian Federation of Sports, and headed the medical service at the Norwegian Olympic Center until the autumn of 2011. In 2007 he was appointed Head of Science and Research for the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Lars Engebretsen is a specialist in Orthopaedic and general surgery and authorized as Sports Medicine Physician by the Norwegian Society of Sports Medicine. He serves as chief team physician for the Norwegian Olympic teams.
Dr. Carolyn Emery is a physiotherapist and epidemiologist. She completed her BSc in Physiotherapy at Queens University in 1988 and after several years of practice in pediatric rehabilitation and sport medicine, Dr. Emery completed her MSc in Epidemiology (Community Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine) at the University of Calgary in 1999 and obtained her PhD in Epidemiology (Public Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine) from the University of Alberta in 2004. She was recruited to the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary in 2004. Dr. Emery is the Associate Dean Research and Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. She holds joint appointments in Pediatrics and Community Health Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. Dr. Emery is currently the Academic Director of the Postdoctoral Office at the University of Calgary. She is a member of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute, O’Brien Institute of Public Health, Hotchkiss Brain Institute and the McCaig Institute of Bone and Joint Health.
