Organizing Committee

The VU University Amsterdam, VU University Medical Center, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Topsport Amsterdam, and the Center for Adapted Sports Amsterdam | Reade take part in the Amsterdam Institute of Sport Science (AISS) and focus within this institute on research on and (scientific and practical) support of regular and adapted sports.

Both at the VU University Amsterdam and the VU University Medical Center sport and human move¬ment are studied in depth. The major part of the research of the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences aims to understand and improve sport performance, able-bodied as well as adap¬ted sport, by studying biomechanical, physiological, perceptual and cognitive processes and factors. Symbiotic research at the EMGO+ Institute for Health and Care Research focuses on optimizing health and preventing injury. The scientific quality and practical applicability of the research projects in question is testified by their vast output in international journals devoted to theoretical and applied aspects of sport research.

At the Center for Adapted Sports Amsterdam | Reade, not only research regarding adapted sports, from sport in during rehabilitation to elite Paralympic sport, is performed, but also scientific support of elite Paralympic athletes and talents is provided. One of the IPC Classification Research and Development Centres is at our VU University Amsterdam, where a project for the development of sport-specific classification for athletes with visual impairments is conducted. Additionally, the EMGO+ Institute is recently accredited as an IOC Research Center for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health. The Amsterdam and InHolland Universities of Applied Sciences are project leader of an EU funded project (Sports Empowering Disabled Youth) focusing on the promotion of sports for children with disabilities.
