On Thursday 5 September (16:00 - (max.) 19:00) there are two side-events you can attend. An active side-event and a guided tour.  

1. Visting Friendship Sports Center

On Thursday the 5th of September there are two side-events. One of the events is visiting the Friendship Sports Center (FSC) in Amsterdam. FSC is the only sports facility in Europe that’s fully focusing on children and youth with disabilities.

Practical information:

  • Duration: 2,5 hours
  • Transport: By touringcar. You will be picked up at the conference venue.
  • Costs: € 25,- (maximum of 80 participants)

2. Wheelchair Rugby & Boccia Workshop

Experience Thrills & Spills at the IPC VISTA Wheelchair Rugby Workshop!

Get ready to smash stereotypes about physically impaired athletes. During our session, led by Amsterdam Terminators coach Reda Haouam, you will learn all about the exciting sport of wheelchair rugby. To succeed at this dynamic, fast-paced game you'll combine physicality and cunning with team work, communication and determination.

This session will be led by Reda Haouam (32), wheelchair rugby athlete and coach of the Amsterdam Terminators. In 2008 he got picked for the Dutch national wheelchair rugby team and has captained the squad since 2009 at every international competition. He will be assisted by wheelchair rugby athletes to provide you with insights into this game.

Boccia workshop

You haven’t seen sport until you’ve seen boccia!

Boccia is a totally inclusive sport and can be played by anyone regardless of age, gender, ability or disability.  Boccia is the only sporting option for many severely disabled and older people with limited motor skills.

Although deceptively simple to get started, the tactics of the sport offer both tension and excitement as the game plays out. You will be challenged to think ahead and to use your fine motor skill to their full potential. Members of the Dutch Paralympic team will assist you along the way to show you all of the dimensions of this precision ball sport.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Location: Sporthallen Zuid, Burgerweeshuispad 54, 1076 EP Amsterdam
  • Transport: Easily reached by public transport from the hotel: 2 stops from station RAI with metro line 50 (direction Isolatorweg), get off at station Amstelveenseweg. From the station it’s 400m to the venue.
  • Costs: € 25,- (maximum 20 participants)
